Having your car insurance in your own name brings independence and freedom. You can start building up your no claims bonus. We’ll offer up to 75% no claims discount if you have been over 5 years claims free.

Replacement Car

Comprehensive policies only. Should you find yourself without your car because of an accident, we’ll give you a replacement car to tide you over while it’s being repaired. Repairs must be carried out by an AXA approved repairer.

Here are some of the more popular questions we get from young drivers in Ireland.

Can I get car insurance as a learner driver?
Yes, of course you can.
Along with providing learner drivers with insurance, we have also teamed up with the Irish School of Motoring to help keep the costs of learning to drive low for you.
If you choose us for your Car Insurance as a learner driver, you can get 12 EDT-approved lessons from €545, along with AXA Test Drive and a learner driver guide, for free.
Is it legal to drive unaccompanied on a learner permit?
No.
By law, you are not allowed to drive on your own if you hold a learner permit. You must always be accompanied by a fully licenced driver, who has held their full licence for a minimum of 2 years.
Can I get a car quote online if I’m a first-time driver?
Yes, we offer insurance quotes online, in branch and over the phone to first time drivers and drivers who have no previous insurance in their own name.
To get a car insurance quote, simply select 'NO PREVIOUS INSURANCE' in the driving experience question.

Can a learner driver get insurance on their own car?
Yes, learner drivers can get insurance on their own car. You must be the legally registered owner & keeper of the car.
Can I add a learner driver to my existing car insurance policy?
Yes, in most cases you can add a learner driver to your existing policy.
While getting your quote, you just need to enter the named drivers name, driver number, and their driving history. If you have any queries, you can always contact us to discuss your policy.
Do AXA have black box insurance?
No, we do not use telematics/driver apps/black boxes to track young drivers anymore.
