Maintaining your home
As with any home insurance, you need to ensure that all property is kept in good condition and take reasonable precautions to avoid damage to your home.
We recommend that you check for the following every year:
- Ensure there are no leaks or gaps in the grout/seal on tiles in your bathroom or shower, which could cause water damage.
- Fix any leaking taps.
- Regularly check smoke alarms or carbon monoxide devices.
- Check your water storage tank for corrosion, particularly if it’s over 10 years old.
- Clear leaves and other debris from your gutters.
- Ensure windows and doors are watertight and not damaged.
- If you have a mineral flat roof over five years old, it must be checked by a professional builder every three years.
- If you have a septic tank, follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for maintenance.
- Be sure to locate your water stopcock, so you can turn off the water if there is a leak.
