If you are working in a trade, you may choose a van as your vehicle of choice as it’s easier to transport your tools and equipment from job to job.
To keep you and your van on the road, AXA provides commercial van insurance with a wide selection of cover options to suit different business purposes. You can choose between our standard or premier insurance packages, with each package offering different benefits to suit you. You can also opt for the level of cover you need by choosing between Comprehensive, Third Party Fire & Theft or Third Party Only cover.
What is the difference between Standard and Premier Insurance?
If you're looking to insure your van you can choose between AXA’s standard and premier van insurance policy options. Below we detail what’s included in each package to help you choose which option suits your needs best.
Standard Van Insurance
AXA’s Standard Van Insurance is our entry level package. If you choose our comprehensive cover this offers you unlimited injury cover, cover for your van & cover for damage to other people's property, and emergency medical treatment.
Premier Van Insurance
Our comprehensive Premier Van Insurance covers all that was previously mentioned in our Standard Insurance but extends your coverage further, to include reduced accidental damage excess, no claims discount step back, new van replacement, and €300 windscreen and windows cover. Alongside all of this, our Premier Insurance also means that regardless of your policy, your no claims discount will not be affected by a fire or theft claim.
Vehicle Categories
Vehicles are categorised by a letter and number which indicates their intended use. You should be aware of which category your vehicle falls under so you understand your motor tax and testing requirements.
AXA’s van insurance policies cover most vans, with a maximum carrying capacity of 2 tonnes. When you fill out our van insurance quote form, our team will let you know if your van is eligible for AXA van insurance.
What is a light commercial vehicle?
Light commercial vehicles (LCVs) are designed and constructed to carry goods. These vehicles have a maximum gross vehicle weight of 3.5 tonnes.
Light vans are categorised as N1.
What is a heavy commercial vehicle?
Heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs) are vehicles with a gross vehicle weight above 3.5 tonnes. They are also known as heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).
Large, heavy vans are categorised as N2.
Does AXA Van Insurance cover more than one driver?
Yes, if you wish to allow others to drive your van, you can add up to four named drivers while you are applying for a van insurance quote with us. Or if you already have a van insurance policy with us, you can call 0818 7 365 24 to speak to our van insurance team to add additional named drivers to your policy.
What are named drivers covered for?
When you add a named driver to your van insurance policy, they will have the same level of cover as you, the main driver. So, any named drivers will be fully covered to drive your van, subject to T&Cs.
If I have my private car insurance with AXA, can I avail of a discount on my van insurance?
Yes, if you have your car insurance policy with AXA you are entitled to 30% off your van insurance policy. Also, if you don’t have your private car insured with AXA, but instead have it insured with another provider, we will still offer you a 20% discount on your van insurance. This means that once you have a car insured, you can avail of a discount regardless of the insurance provider!
